In material weather resistance testing, xenon lamp aging test chambers are core equipment for simulating natural environments such as sunlight, temperature and humidity, rainwater, etc. Faced with a wide variety of models and configurations available on the market, how to choose the one that is most suitable for you? This article will quickly sort out the advantages and disadvantages of key configurations, as well as the customized services that Beier can provide for you.
I. Core Configuration Comparison: Air-Cooled vs. Water-Cooled
• Air-Cooled
✅ Advantages: Compact structure, easy maintenance, low operating cost, suitable for small to medium laboratories or scenarios with limited budget.
❌ Disadvantages: Limited lamp tube power; long-term high-irradiance operation stability is slightly inferior to water-cooled systems.
• Water-Cooled
✅ Advantages: High heat dissipation efficiency, supports higher-power lamp tubes, suitable for high-intensity, long-duration continuous aging tests.
❌ Disadvantages: Complex system, large footprint, requires a cooling water circulation device, with higher initial investment and maintenance costs.
Recommendation: Air-cooled systems are sufficient for routine material screening; water-cooled systems are recommended for high-demand fields such as automotive exterior components and aerospace composite materials.
II. Light Source and Spectrum: Full-Spectrum + High-End Lamp Tubes
• Full-Spectrum Range: (290~2450nm) The latest standard BR-4000 xenon lamp weathering test chamber can accurately simulate ground-level solar radiation.
290–800nm: The most sensitive band for material aging (UV-B/UV-A/visible light), which is the focus of almost all international standards (such as ISO 4892-2, ASTM G155).
800–2450nm: Belongs to near-infrared (NIR) and part of mid-infrared, mainly affecting sample temperature rise and thermal aging effects, suitable for photovoltaic backboards, automotive interiors, etc.
• Standard/Optional Light Sources:
◦ Atlas original xenon lamp tubes: Internationally recognized standard light source with strong spectral stability and a lifespan of 1500–4000 hours (under water-cooled conditions).
◦ Combined with imported filters, it can accurately simulate outdoor direct sunlight, daylight through window glass, and other different application scenarios.
III. Sample Rack Types: Flat Plate vs. Rotating Drum
• Flat Plate Type: Suitable for 3D irregular samples and large components, with flexible loading.
• Rotating Drum Type (Rotating Sample Rack): Samples rotate at a uniform speed (≥1 r/min), ensuring even light exposure. It is particularly suitable for small-batch testing of small parts and meets the requirements of standards such as ASTM G155.
We can customize the number of layers, diameter, and fixtures of the turnbuckles according to your specific sample shape.
